Understanding SQL Server Reporting Services Authentication Authentication is the security mechanism used to identify a person, process, or computer thats attempting to use a system resource. Authentication merely confirms the identity of the requestor. It doesnt include authorization, which is the process of using the requestors identity to check whether permissions allow access to the requested resource.
